Following the response to the fourth false alarm, police response to alarms at that premises will be suspended for 365 days.”

PEEL REGION SUBSCRIBERS

Following are the relevant sections of the Peel Regional Police Service False Alarm Recovery Program:

ALARM POLICY:

False Alarm Notice -  mailed to the alarm owner when police have responded to one (1) false alarm within a one year period.  A copy of the Peel Regional Police Alarm Policy is included.

Suspension Notice - served to the alarm owner when police have responded to two (2) false alarms within a one year period. The policy provides a sixty-day period from the first false alarm to provide an opportunity to (a) receive the first False Alarm Notice and a copy of the False Alarm Policy and (b) to  resolve the false alarm problem to avoid suspension of police service. Police response to alarm calls will be suspended for a one year period commencing on the suspension date or until a reinstatement request has been submitted and approved by the Alarm Office.

Note: All other police service will be maintained should you require assistance. Non Emergency  905 453-3311 or Emergency call 9-1-1.

Reinstatement Request - may be submitted by your monitoring station at anytime listing false alarm dates and resolution of each. All fields of the Peel Regional Police Reinstatement Request Form must be completed. The Reinstatement Request Form will be reviewed and if approved, a notice advising date of reinstatement of police service will be forwarded to the monitoring station within approximately 60 days. If two further false alarms occur, the original suspension will remain in effect for the duration of the suspension period.

Magen statistics show that the following are the three major causes of false alarms:

1. Improper use of the system
2. Environmental conditions
3. Equipment failure

In our continuing effort to help combat false alarms, we feel that customer awareness can play a large part in this program. For that reason we have listed a few of the more frequent problems in this area:

- Be aware of the delay time allotted to enter and exit your premises when arming and disarming your system.

- It is the customer's responsibility to annually verify that all the users of the system have a valid identification card for the system. Also ensure that our service department has an accurate call list for notification of an emergency.

- If you are installing ceiling fans, air conditioners or forced air heating vents, be aware that they may cause items such as plants, decorations, etc. to move in the view of the motion detectors.

- Residential customers should take precautions against leaving pets unattended that may pass in front of motion detectors triggering a false alarm.

- Commercial customers should be concerned about rodents, birds, etc. in a premise, since they may trigger motion detector alarms as well.

- Ensure that the electrical breaker supplying power to the system is not inadvertently turned off.

Guard response option is available at a reasonable cost.
If you wish to discuss this option, or should you have any questions please contact Magen's service department at: 416-658 5757

Phone Line Changes:

If you have changed your telephone service provider or added or removed telephone lines, or if you have added or installed Voice Over IP or Centrex Service (the kind that requires the addition of 8 or 9 before dialing an outside line) be sure to let us know. If you don't let us know as soon as you have made a change, your security system may not operate in the event of an attempted break-in!

Uninterrupted Electrical Supply to the System:

Users sometimes shut down their electrical supply intentionally or accidentally. When the electrical supply is shut down, the Security System operates on the Back-up Batteries. The Back-up Batteries may run down during the power shut down and cause more problems down the line.
IMPORTANT: When the major power source is shut down, the 'Trouble' light goes on, on most panels. If you see this light on, call our Service at  416-658-5757 immediately!

Smoke Detectors:

The City of Mississauga reports that in 85% of cases in which a smoke alarm did not activate, it was due to a dead or missing battery/power source. Don't take chances. Replace your batteries twice a year. When switching your clocks to summertime and to wintertime, change your smoke detector batteries too!
If you are in any doubt, call our Service at 416-658-5757 immediately!

Changes in Key Holders:

Let us know when you add a new key holder or remove one from your list.
And update us on new contact telephone numbers.
To give you the best possible service, we need this information. Please remember to keep us informed.
