 An old joke in the industry says that soon all work will be done by computer with only a man and a dog to operate things. The man’s job is to feed the dog and the dog’s job is to make sure that the man doesn’t touch the computer. Technology isn’t there yet: you still have to touch the computer, but many things around the house and garden can be done without human intervention. And what’s more, they can be done better. Lights go on as you enter a room and shut off when you leave; temperature adjusts itself to the presence or absence of people in a room; window shades shut when the sun goes down and the lights go on, open again when the sun rises.

How does all this stuff work and what are some of the other ways automatic technology can serve you? Olin offers a 60 minute talk on Home Automation to clubs and to professional organizations to help them understand what automation can do for you in your home and in your office.

Olin is Founder and Owner of Magen Security and Home Automation, founded in 1981. Magen was one of the first firms to offer home automation in the GTA and remains one of the major integrators. Even as a kid, Olin was into automation and security. At the age of 13 he developed a security system to warn him if his mom was approaching his room to check up on him, so that he could look innocent when she entered. Since then, he has learned a few new tricks: he is accredited by Crestron, Control4, IBM and by other major producers of automatic systems.
